Dear Miss.Yu,
I have to say that you make me hate watching movies, beacuse We have to do lots of works during we are watching movies, and after the moives.
I was really enjoy the movie, and I was not enjoy the class. I really want to watch a movie integrallty, and It shouldn't be "watching", "writing", "watching", and " writing".
Even worse, we have to write an essay when the movie is not finished. What is going to happen after the movie? Is there a new essay that we have to write?
Last, I know my words are useless, and we will do the same thing tomorrow which is "wathcing", "writing", "watching", and "writing". If my words make you feel unhappy, you can just forger about these, and I will not argue about this anymore.
There are noting special of Wall-E, and also The City Of Ember. People make movies, then movies help them to earn money. Audiences can get fun from moives, and moviemakers get benefit. Wall-E is just another product of moviemakers, even though there are some deep meaning in the movie. Different people might have different thinking on one movie, for me, the robot Wall-E symbolizes the kindness, naiveness of human. Also it is in sharp contrast to the future mankind. As far the ending, it will be very beautiful, beacause the first half shows vitality(green plant), love ( Wall-E, Eve), and inflexibility ( Wall-E's love to Eve) to audiences. Hence, I guess there is a satisfactory in the end.

I wish the ending just like what u described, but I did not even connect the plant and two robots' love for what meaning to audiences.
ReplyDeleteU are too realistic on the movie. According ur words, the purpose and motivation of doing everything is for profit in the world.
Ps:there is a spelling mistake:moviemakers
Dear Outlaw,
ReplyDeleteI am sad to hear that you think movies are just for fun... just for profit... and nothing special.
Yes, movies should be enjoyable, but when studying literature, it should also be meaningful. Great movies are only great because they are able to capture the bigger picture, the deeper meaning, the theme, the human nature, the conflicts that we face from day to day.
The City of Ember, along with The Giver, Lord of the Flies, and other well-known novels have won literary awards because they were able to portray human nature, and discuss the problems in society in a beautiful/powerful/metaphorical way. Great literature is filled with allusions, metaphors, irony, and symbols... carefully crafted and written into the story.
Only when such literature is appreciated do companies invest money to make a movie. Other very famous works that have been made into movies are the Chronicles of Narnia, Lord of the Rings, and so on. These books were written many many many years ago... and no one has been able to recreate them into motion pictures until recently (there were really simple cartoons before, but they did not capture the story very well, and were forgotten).
The reason we are watching/writing/watching/writing... is so when you need to reflect on the movie, you will have some notes to fall back on... you will have had a bit more time to think about the ideas... and if others in the class have missed some important ideas, they would be able to catch up. Not everyone is able to follow the story line as quickly as you.
If you would like to borrow the movie after we finish so you can watch it from beginning to end, you are more than welcome to.
I appreciate your honesty about how you feel when watching the movie... I am not unhappy with your words...I am just a little sad that such a great message from the movie seem to have gotten lost...
Ms. Yu
I said my words are useless already...
ReplyDeleteHm...not all useless. At least we didn't stop the movie today to answer questions. =)
ReplyDeleteI would be very grateful if we can do something like this in class, instead having tests 4 out of 5 days a week. well, It is very frustrating to think about writing an essay while watching an interesting movie. Good luck to you guys!
ReplyDelete.................
ReplyDeleteWe are different.
